Review: Bülow - London Headline + SXSW | New Track 'Get Stüpid'

Bülow is a brand new artist who’s electro-pop tunes are absolute bangers. Writing all that she performs herself, the solo singer delivers a performance full of attitude, suave, and a casually cool spirit that makes her enjoyable as much as intriguing. Following her US shows at SXSW, she also performed her first major headline show in London at Shoreditch venue The Courtyard this week.

Moments where she performed songs like “You & Jennifer” were some of the most memorable. Asking the audience “Is anyone called Jennifer” to introduce the song, she was expectedly met with cheers. Yet unlike the typical pop star response, she hit back with a blunt “well, fuck you,” (though inoffensively), and slid straight in to her tune addressing the cheating relationship. The unpredictability and honest character behind the songs makes them all the more addictive.

“SAD AND SOBER” is one of her most memorable songs, with a rhythm and melody doesn’t resemble any other tune, showing her songwriting skills to be superior in their originality. ‘Lines’ is another favourite which showcases a more melodic side of her repertoire, and proves her to be a diverse songwriter.

“Get Stüpid’ is her newest release (Republic / Polydor) off EP “Crystalline” just out this week, which sees a youthful side of her, addressing partying, drugs, and such in frat culture, being a favourite amongst her young adult audience. Check out the new track here!
