Ruby Empress | Live at Leeds Top 12

Ruby Empress travelled 25 hours from Sweden for their half hour slot at Live at Leeds – so it would only rude not to catch their set.

The performance was characterised by intensity, but represented freedom. Ruby Empress are not phased or restricted by musicals conventions, but instead step out to create a whole new sound not shared by other bands on the festival’s line up. Using a mixture of curious sounds between live instruments and electronic production to layer their performance, they performed tracks from their debut ‘Empressionism,’ released in 2017.

Though we’ve had to stay patient for new releases since, I would say that they are definitely worth the wait, taking their time to refine their sound to produce this eclectic and musically advanced new style of genre-less music they deliver.

Lead singer Tom Serner certainly does not shy away from front and centre stage – he loves every minute of performing, and embraces their unique sonic and visual aesthetic. Even when their music may take some acclimatising to for the fans who are newer to them, the audience will only always love a live set from the group from the first moment because of their fierce energy.
