Annie Mac Presents: Maverick Sabre, Laurel, Rimon

Annie Mac has become the leading tastemaker in the UK’s breaking bands across all genres from guitar music to electronic to jazz. Her monthly AMP Collected nights, curated and presented by herself, are a perfect opportunity to join her on the journey of finding the future of music at Camden’s Jazz Café.

Maverick Sabre headlined the night, performing his first gig in London since 2016. His long term fans couldn’t be more glad to see him return, as the entire crowd was there jamming to his old tunes and taking in the new ones to come. ‘Drifting,’ a new single released just a couple of months ago, was a personal favourite of the night. Though largely a funky, jazz inspired set, with just a bass and electric guitar behind him, he ended the night on an acoustic folk vibe. He brought out his acoustic guitar for the last two songs and sang some of his first hits like ‘I Need’ – a song he explained he wrote when he was 15 and has stuck with him throughout.

Laurel played on the bill prior to Maverick, bringing a more old school pop vibe to the stage. Her song “All Star” was a perfect indication of the type of artist she is – laid back pop drenched in heart and soul and fuelled with transparent emotion. This charming transparency in her performance allowed the audience to really connect with her songs. Front and centre with an electric or acoustic guitar throughout and a band behind her, Laurel is a pop star with something to say about to rise up to the top hard and fast.

Rimon opened the night. She is an artist who started releasing just in 2018 itself, but has already made an impact in the songwriting world. Showcasing her easy-going, funky R&B-pop music, the strength of her voice is never doubtful. ‘Grace’ and ‘Realize’ are her most notable tracks, which also feature high class production.

Annie Mac and AMP are the people and places to go for the best picks in new music in the UK right now, hosting showcases across the country. Grab tickets to the next Annie Mac Presents night at Oslo Hackney on December 11th now!
