SXSW '17: Mondo Cozmo | No. 16
No. 16 on our Top 25 SXSW goes to Mondo Cozmo!
Mondo Cozmo hit SXSW with ‘Music Is Universal’ – the aptly name showcase of Universal Music’s future with their newest, fastest rising artists.
Mondo Cozmo is a Los Angeles rocker, but with a stronger, more soulful voice than you would expect from a frontman of a rock band. As one of Republic Record’s newest project – the best label in the world – he is really a revolutionary player in the emerging artist scene, just because he doesn’t do anything the way he’s supposed to, and that personality of his comes through even through his performance and his music. It’s his way on stage.
“Shine” was the song which had the audience singing along. His biggest track yet, it’s still pretty fantastic for an emerging artist to have a song which a new audience knows. Other favourites of the night included ‘Higher,’ introducing us to a funkier, edgier side of his rock, conversely ‘Hold On To Me’ was a calmer, more emotion driven track.
Being an emerging rock artist in a contemporary scene, making a mark in what is otherwise a scene saturated in electronic pop and acoustic songwriters, Mondo Cozmo does a great job of keeping true to his own way and style, so whilst one may think a rock band from some dudes in their 30s has been seen before, Mondo really hasn’t.
He is currently touring with Bastille too, so great to see one revolutionary game-changing band supporting another, we can’t wait to see what those two do together!
