SXSW '17: Ciaran Lavery | No. 23

SXSW celebrated St Patrick’s Day in the British Music Embassy’s ‘Output Belfast’ program, where we came across Irish guitarist and vocalist Ciaran Lavery.

Previously endorsed by Zane Lowe – who was this year’s SXSW keynote speaker – Lavery has proven himself to be more than a typical singer-songwriter, despite the stripped back instrumentation on stage.

His husky voice adds a unique element to his songs, making his songs sound incredibly raw, fresh and real. His music didn’t conform to the classic ballad formula, but rather really kept the Irish twang as well as his own perspectives and compositional techniques.

Lavery is set to release his third studio album this year, so be sure to keep an eye out for it! He was certainly appealing to the green-laden and beer-chugging audience which filled the British Music Embassy in Austin.
