REVIEW: ISLAND | Koko
Island played their biggest ever headline show in their hometown of London, in Camden’s iconic KOKO.
Returning to London after a whole year after last year’s sold out Scala night, they treated with their fans with tracks from their debut album ‘Feels Like Air.’ It’s impressive that the band packed out this huge venue just weeks after the release of their debut. Island successfully built up their following largely on the rounds of relentless live performances and tours that they have completed over the last couple of years, where the magic of the band’s epic guitar riffs and Rollo’s clear vocals can really resonate through the room.
I’ve followed the band from their very first headline show ever at Dalston’s 150 cap venue The Victoria, and to see them charm a crowd 10X larger whilst maintaining their fun-loving personalities and top quality tunes gives a warm feeling, as I’m sure is also the case for a large number of people in Koko’s audience.
The band delivered their biggest hit ‘Waves’ in the encore, from their debut EP. Here’s when a huge canon of confetti blasted and the entire 1,500 cap near sold-out venue was the most colourful sight for a few moments.
Island are about to head out to the States for the first time, so be sure to check them there in intimate venues from East to West coast while you can!
