The UK’s most coveted platform for new music, BBC Introducing, joins forces with the UK’s greatest new music festival, The Great Escape, to present a mega line up at The Courtyard, as the Great Escape First Fifty continues to showcase the first wave of artists announced to play at the 2019 festival.

Hosted by Radio 1 legend Huw Stephens, Lucia opened the night. The band focus on performing, not just playing, placing huge emphasis on their aesthetic and movements to compliment their guitar led music. The band released their debut EP ‘Cheap Talk’ just at the start of the month, and clearly were sharing a huge adrenaline rush with their fans, experiencing the EP together for the first time.

Zuzu continued the night. A long time favourite of BBC Introducing and set to play Huw Stephens’ own showcase next week, and sharing management with UK star Tom Grennan, Zuzu’s popularity is in no question. She’s almost crossed the border outside of an ‘emerging artist,’ as she just came fresh off of a support tour for The Courteneers. Sharing charming anecdotes with the audience, she wittily explains the relief of playing to a youthful audience again, and took advantage of the intimate setting of the venue to share the meaning behind her songs like ‘Get Off,’ a blunt but warm tune.

Indoor Pets (above) headlined the night. Much applaud is due for the band, who continue to play shows after their equipment was famously stolen out of their tour van last month. But the band made the best out of a bad situation, already having recovered the funds for their new equipment and thanking their fans with tea towels that Huw showed off. By this point, the venue was rammed with fans in mosh pits and headbanging with lead singer Jamie, who’s dynamic movements and facial expressions add to the vibrancy of the music. ‘All My Friends’ is a tune every person in the room knew, old or new fans, and the band set the bar high for performances to come at next year’s Great Escape.
