REVIEW: Busty and the Bass UK Tour

Busty and the Bass came to the UK from Canada to bring their funk infused hip-hop to Camden! They were our number 1 artist at SXSW, and so we couldn’t have been more excited to welcome them here with their sold out show and brand new songs.

The line up of the band consists of the classic live band instruments like drums and guitars, but with the addition of a substantial brass section, keys, synths, and a killer rapper vocalist adding on that something special to the band with this beats, totalling to nine members in this touring group. WOW.

Not only do frontmen Nick and Evan have outstanding vocals, but the band’s ability to carry an audience through just their instruments is rare. Keyboard player Louis has numerous key solos throughout, as well as the band performing instrumental numbers throughout.

It was exciting to hear some of my favourite songs from the first time I heard them perform a couple of months before, the tunes fresh in my head as if I heard them yesterday. ‘Memories and Melodies’ – their newest release, and ‘Dance With Someone,’ are the two which still stood out for me the most, as the insturmentaion and vocals are uncomaprable on these.

This gig was all inclusive in showcasing the band’s full talent – we heard everything: Old tunes, new tunes, unreleased tunes, instrumental songs, and the band also did an Anderson Paak cover to top it all off, and an encore so genuine – as in, it was a real encore, the band’s humility really showing through in that moment too.

The group headed off the next morning to take Brighton by storm at The Great Escape, and we can’t wait to welcome them back!
