SXSW '17: Jacob Banks | No. 10
We enter our top 10 SXSW artists, with Birmingham rocker Jacob Banks!
One of the best stage presences I saw the entire week, Banks knew how to engage his audience the whole way through – especially challenging if it was an audience new to the music, as the audience at the ‘Music Is Universal’ showcase, in which Banks was presented by his label Interscope.
His voice is incredibly rich, which really sits well with his incredibly melodic tunes, presenting a huge vocal range.
There’s a certain wisdom in his voice, singing lyrics where we feel like we can trust his words. To convey that sort of emotion in his music is incredibly admirable in an artist, particularly evoked in his slower songs. He very much gave the message where you had to listen to his lyrics. His more lively songs were just a joy to watch and be a part of live, watching him take over the stage.
All his music enhanced by the new popular technique of drum pads and synths, the electronic composition didn’t make him lose any authenticity or live quality, his voice still standing out from above the rest.
Always great to see a British guy take on America!
