SXSW '17: The Japanese House | No. 11
The Japanese House are next on our line up of our favourite 25 SXSW artists! I caught these guys a numerous times over the weekend, including a performance at SXSW’s Radio Day Stage, Universal Music’s showcase, and Neon Gold’s showcase.
These guys just demonstrated even further the strength of British Music, standing out in what was otherwise a rather American festival. Lead singer Amber Bain really carries the message of the band through her vocals – both texture and lyrics, seemingly conveying a feeling of pain, yet hope.
The vitality to the production in the bands’ music is obvious even on stage. Bain uses many FX on her voice, creating for a very creative performance, and also revisits the creative use of auto-tune that artists recently abandoned. Her voice sits in perfectly with the instruments, making for a really innovative composition.
The band showcased tunes from their latest EP “Swim Against The Tide,” released just at the end of last year. These tunes particularly carry this innovative instrumentation that the band are getting recognised for.
Be sure to check these guys out and their new EP, as they're quickly on the rise!
