SXSW '17: James Hersey | No. 12
James Hersey is next up on our countdown of our favourite SXSW artists! He had some big spots during the week, including Neon Gold’s showcase at Empire on Wednesday night and also opened Universal Music’s program of music the following day, presented by Glassnote Records.
Hersey does a good job of drawing on a variety of influences, his music showing hints of the classic style indie-band, but then also has some very individualistic features and grooves in there. Hersey shows us a new kind of “singer songwriter,” adding a funky, electronic edge to this otherwise acoustic-pop style.
The crowd got particularly excited for recently released ‘Miss You,’ which has a really minimalistic composition, full of repetition an uncomplicated instrumentation, only enhancing the meaning and feelings of the song that he clearly wanted to convey, matching the lyrics.
His band are really vital to completing his live set, adding a lot of funk and musicality to the simple but beautiful melodies that Hersey produces.
Hersey is coming to perform at the Camden Assembly on May 15th, so grab your tickets!!
