SXSW Music Festival '17 | Austin, Texas
We hit SXSW in Austin Texas for the first time ever this year! It was an intense week but we saw all the music we possibly could from all over the world, including all over The States, Europe, Ireland, and our own home of England!
Highlights of the week included BRIT’s Critic’s Choice Award 2017 winner Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, The Big Moon, Elle Exxe, FOXTRAX, and more, as well as the highly anticipated Maggie Rogers who’s quick rise to fame an extreme popularity was only apparent at this festival.
The British Music Embassy at Latitude 30 was an entire week of music programmed by BBC Music, and we couldn’t have found a better hub than that to discover Britain’s best new music. Other spaces included brands such as Apple Music, the Spotify House, and the YouTube space also curating nights, as well as ‘Music Is Universal’ – daily gigs showcasing artists signed to the great Universal Music USA.
As well as seeing the most talked about bands right now, we also discovered brand new music – our favourite being Canadian band Busty and the Bass – a 9 piece band fusing all genres of music you could possibly think of in the most sophisticated - and funky - way a band ever could.
As well as the 24/7 music made available to SXSW badge holders, there was also unofficial showcases taking over the city for everyone to enjoy the music.
SXSW participants also got access to the brilliant panels and speeches presented by the festival, with keynote speeches from Nile Rodgers and Beats 1 and formerly Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, both of whom gave such valuable words of wisdom it was hard to believe we had such easy access to hear their thoughts.
Over the next couple of weeks, we’re going to be counting down the top 25 artists who we saw at SXSW last week, so keep an eye out!
