Communion Music: Rockwood Music Hall
Communion Music return to NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall this month for their residency showcasing the best new music around!
I’ve been following his music a while, but after seeing his performance at Communion Music’s residency at Rockwood Music Hall this week in NYC, I realised how talented he really is seeing him live for the first time, and my definite highlight of the night!
From our home in London, I always love to see British talent come over to the US. He performed a solo set up, a one man band with his electronic-pop set up and smooth, falsetto yet husky voice. His favourite song of mine on the night was ‘In The Dark,’ a really ambient, emotive, and musically advanced song, which was almost hard to believe all of the music was created by just the one person on stage. The vocals were some of the most rich and soulful I’ve ever heard, and beautifully executed.
Another favourite of mine was ‘Ain’t No Use,’ which is the title track from Matt’s new EP released a couple of months ago. His whole EP is a very funky, electronic vibe, particularly song ‘Nothing Less,’ which has some really interesting production on it too!
Band Salt Cathedral took to the stage after Matt, with a very interesting performance, bringing their own stage set up, with strobe lights and everything!
Stage 2 was where I mainly hung out, but the other two stages in Rockwood featured more acoustic vibes and newer bands. Band ‘Dizzy’ was my favourite from Stage 1, again fitting in to the new wave of electronic pop on the rise.
We’ll be hitting Communion’s night at SXSW next week, with Maggie Rogers and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man both part of the line up – can’t wait for that!
