Elton John | Apple Music Festival 2016

The Apple Music Festival returns to Camden’s Roundhouse! The formerly named iTunes Festival returns for a second year in it’s rebranded form, bringing 10 of the world’s biggest artists to the Roundhouse for ten nights of free music, and Elton John opens this year!

An absolute legend who performed at the Roundhouse even back in 1970, with some of the same musicians, including one of the greatest percussionists Ray Cooper, it was surreal to see he was back!

John performed his greatest hits, including Your Song, Crocodile Rock, and more, which had the whole audience of 2,000 sing his songs back to him – including a bit in Crocodile Rock where it was just the audience!

This performance was really special as he had four emerging artists come up to accompany him with songs and also have the opportunity to sing their songs – artists who John said he had discovered through the curation of his own radio show on Apple Music.  Rosie Lowe was first to come out, singing ‘Woman,’ and ‘Yellow Brick Road’ with John, Gallant, Oklahoma singer Parker Millsap, performing his title track of his new album ‘The Very Last Day’ with John as well as the well known ‘Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,’ and my personal favourite guest, Christine and the Queens – who performs with The 1975 the next day of the festival too! She had an interesting dance routine to accompany her music, proving her to be a great performer, showing us her song ‘Tilted,’ and John almost letting her take the lead when dueting his ‘Tiny Dancer’ together.

John of course had plenty of the night to himself too, one of my favourite performances of the night being ‘Levon’ which had a fantastic instrumental breakdown in the middle, reminding us all of the musical groundings that popular music should have! John ended the night on ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting,’ bringing back all his guests to perform with him, but it was only the start of the Apple Music Festival!

Full coverage of the festival to come on Concentus Music at Camden’s Roundhouse, as we prepare for our own special show at the Roundhouse later this year on December 10th, to be announced!
