Billboard Music Awards, 2016

The Billboard Music Awards 2016 hit Las Vegas again in this crazy and wonderful year of music! This evening was a celebration of the best music from Billboard Top 100 in the last year, including 19 nominations from The Weeknd, performances and wins from Justin Bieber, a return to live TV from Kesha, and a video premiere of Adele’s new song ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover).

These award shows are my favourite time of the year as they are not only a celebration of music but also a huge concert, with some of the best songs from the year performed all in one place! Britney Spears opened the night with a medley of all her hits,, Fifth Harmony came in hot style performing ‘Work,’ dancing like no one has ever seen them do before, Lukas Graham and his legendary '7 Years,' Ariana Grande, Bieber came on performing his all-famous ‘Sorry,’ and Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas took us back to our childhoods performing together, as well as Joe Jonas showcasing his brand new band DNCE.

The much talked about performance of Kesha actually HAPPENED, which saw a rollercoaster week permission previously rescinded then regranted. No-one knew if she was going to perform it or not until the time actually came, but then I think it’s safe to say she completey stole the night with her cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘It Ain’t Me Babe,’ all suited up and an all new hairstyle.

Celine Dion was presented with the Icon Award, singing ‘The Show Must Go On,’ and was given a heartfelt surprise by Billboard who asked her son to present the award to her.

Madonna’s tribute to Prince was saved for the end, and the most special part of the evening. Beginning with Prince’s voice and the classic ‘Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life,’ Madonna starting the tribute with Sinead O’ Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U,’ and then being joined on stage by Stevie Wonder, when the two performed Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ together (to which Rihanna dabbed too FYI). The whole auditorium was purple, with each audience member wearing purple wrist bands, the staging purple, and Madonna and Stevie themselves wearing purple, to remember this legend Prince.

No appearance from the usual Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran or that crowd, but Mila Kunis did in fact make an appearance, with her co-stars from ‘Bad Moms’ – and other Hollywood actors and actresses took part in the night too.
