New Artist of the Week | Port Isla
Our artist of this week is Port Isla! To celebrate the upcoming Grammy Awards on Monday, where Britain's finest James Bay is nominated for 'Best New Artist,' we thought these guys would be a fine pick for this week, having supported Bay on his 2015 tour.
Port Isla are more pop than indie I would say, but keep it a healthy balance, being very polished and musical at the same time. The 4-piece band also come with some pretty sweet production on their music. 'Crusoe' is particularly intriguing; the ending track to their EP 'In The Long Run' which features no vocals and a rather ambient mysterious vibe.
You can check out their EPs in the usual Internet places, but what fascinates me about these guys is their live run - particularly last year.
I saw Port Isla support Kodaline at The Roundhouse (throwback pic above) this time last year (our first EVER review and rather impromptu interview with the band afterwards- so always a special place in our heart..), played BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in their hometown of Norwich, and ended the year with a bang at Communion's night at the Notting Hill Arts Club, and of course play with our friends over at Beatnik, ISLAND, so it's great to see them still kicking around!
They are literally everywhere I go. So hats off to them, and all the best to their mate James Bay for the Grammy's this week!
Tune in this week for some more Grammy fun, and a lil' radio show featuring a playlist from our favourite nominees (and let's pray, winners!)
