The Q Awards 2016

The Q Awards took place at Camden’s Roundhouse this year, celebrating music’s greatest achievements in the last one year. It was surreal to be in a room with the world’s greatest musicians, from as new as Jack Garratt to as classic as Madness and Meat Loaf (YES MEAT LOAF WAS IN THE AUDIENCE), a long with an audience consisting of the likes of Ronnie Wood and The Edge.

One of my favourite bands Bastille won an award for best track ‘Good Grief,’ which was especially great to see as I have been following them from the time they were playing small venues to new audiences, and now to see them win this award – jus before they headed off to the o2 for their second sold out night! Such respect to them for coming to the Q Awards before (rumour has it they took the tube to the o2 after...)

The 1975 had a very in character acceptance from Matt Healy, who was in concert at the time of the awards, and gave us a live streamed thank you whilst crowd surfing in his audience, exclaiming ‘We should have won best artist’ – not arrogant but in a very pleasant way (and kind of true!)

M.I.A’s ‘Best Innovation In Sound’ Award was really cool, it’s not really an award that other award shows hand out so it’s great to see Q acknowledge all sorts of achievements within music.

Our favourite’s Madness won ‘Q Hall of Fame,’ going through all their music videos all the way to the time they performed in front of Buckingham Palace!!

After the awards, The Charlatans, who also won an award earlier in the night for Best Classic Album, performed a set for all the members of the public who could come in live for the first time ever, and it became another concert at The Roundhouse!

An overall special celebration of old, new, and emerging music, and we were so honoured we got to be there! Here's a full list of winners:
