Nina Nesbitt | SXSW Top 25

Nina Nesbitt came to SXSW to launch her new re-brand. Brushing off the teenage long blonde and baggy jumper look that initially brought her on the scene 6 years ago, Nesbitt returned with a sophisticated aesthetic with an angelic air around her.

Old fans of Nina like myself were able to see the growth in her performance comparable to what she presented previously. Stepping away from the acoustic guitar that formed her signature sound, Nesbitt returned to the stage with an electronic set up, making her competitive in today’s pop market. Her previous experience enabled her performance to be leaps and bounds ahead of many of the newer artists on the line up, putting a huge focus on the overall presentation, everything from the flowers on her microphone to her fashion.

Being very open about the struggles she faced after being dropped from her label a few years ago, after the release of her EP ‘Apple Tree,’ Nesbitt explained and aptly proved how she channelled this frustration to create her new music, most notably like song ‘Empire,’ which addressed her determination to build her own fan base and widespread following despite the apparent setbacks – an admirable quality to see the fire still inside of her.

Nesbitt’s appearance at SXSW was definitely just the first of many fuller performances to come.
